May we officially introduce you to the newest member of team L&KF. Boy oh boy do we deserve it! It has been a long, hard struggle possibly our biggest challenge yet but with the help of a team of wondrous individuals we got there. We have learnt many a lesson and challenged many a preconception, drank way too much caffeine and ploughed through unimaginable exhaustion with grit and determination.

Now go forth and see the fruits of our labour, the most ambitious project we have worked on. A new shop has been opened in Mayfair on Davies street it is called Bokks and has a pop up installation made by yours truly. Please pop down and see our highly glossy constructivist piece.

Errr Jealous much...

There aren't many things out there in the big old creative playing field we attempt to call home that make us writhe with jealousy. In fact it hardly ever happens as we are cynical beyond our years. However at times we can be shocked, inspired and excited. It is at intervals such as this that the ugly, foreboding head of hatred can rear its' obstinate head.

And so it was that this morning at 6am as I obligingly read through my daily dose of art and design insider blog entries and newsletters (this is a complete lie, I was actually on Fbook...it was 6am my eyes weren't even half open, brain function was at minimum capacity people.) Anyway I stumbled upon Charlie Le Mindu's London Fashion Week collection and it has made me green, green and lucid with envy....http://imyouare.com/452

As friends of L&KF may know we have a weak spot for hair, hair used as a material, misplaced and used in a creative capacity intrigues us and has done since the day we met. Watch this space...for one day we will do something incredulous with hair and it will leave you as gobsmacked as I was this very morn.

Chicken In Ting

Yes that is a chickens bum and yes that is my hand up it.

Last week we successfully cast and molded a plaster chicken in one day, it was brilliant. We told everyone we could, it put us on a high for a whole weekend. Unfortunately the buzz didn't last and come Monday morning we were ready for a whole new challenge. It was all a little bit too easy, so we decided to seek out a more gruesome looking chick. Who would have thought that waiting for us in the Halal butchers on Bethnal Green road would be our next victim. We promptly beheaded Albert and scurried home with a £2 chicken that had talons longer than Lady Victoria.

It's now Thursday evening and after a week of gagging, snapping ribs, breaking bones and sawing off claws with a hand saw, we think we have finally cracked it. One plaster chicken sits on our kitchen table legs akimbo ready for adornment on Friday morning.

PLEASE COME TO OUR STUDIO next weekend...we'll have bleached and cleaned the place up then so come and see where the magic happens and join us for a beer from 7pm on the 9th October. We'll then be open for viewings and general chit chat all weekend from 10 am onwards.

U G L Y you ain't got no alibi...

This week we've been researching, reviving and revelling in disease. Ah yes Lightning & Kinglyface have obsessions much like the rest of the universe. Currently we have an ever increasing penchant for macabre illnesses. We're talking the Plague, Pox and of course Syphilis.

That uncanny collision of thought patterns ambushing every reference you lay eyes on has been happening to us this week. It was kick started by a book that we have recently been salivating over - Umberto Eco's - 'On Ugliness.' Coincidental timing and a couple of handy hints from our nearest and dearest prompted us to visit the Wellcome Collection. To say we were left flabberghasted, bemused and dizzy with creativity is an understatement...I was so bewildered by the whole thing I had to go home and Vix had to have a lie down. Trust us, it's worth a visit but only if you're in the right frame of mind. If you've got flalling, death and sexually transmitted diseases on the brain then you should hot foot it to Euston.

In the mean time we will be attempting to scoop all of this disease orientated idea juice into a bowl for a show we are secretly collaborating on in foreign lands. Watch this space...oh and if you want to see our spectacular wall of rope in person then come and see our studio not just for a casual cuppa, we've got an Open studio - Oct 10th and 11th we will be open for viewings all day.
Please come and see us.

Recent times

Frequenting the flower market at 5 am every morning last week has not only taught us how to decipher between all types of natures greenery, but also that one morning alarm is never enough. Sourcing, making and installing several scenes for a Christmas shoot with Harrods, we have had a series of unexpected revelations, but now its over and we are waiting for our body clocks to return to normal. Yesterday was spent entangled in thousands upon thousands of meters of rope, tape and ribbon, wrapping up the Village underground for the annual YCN ‘A-Awards’ 21hour work days are never good for the nerves, when we will learn?

So we are finally back to the studio for our next installment of tips and tricks, Casting a gargantuan amount of wax, photographing a series of death masks, mixing a bit of Greek mythology with the world of mirrors, maybe even a day off..!

WTF?

Driving down hackney road with a 3m roll of paper hanging out of the window seemed like a perfectly normal start to the day. We unloaded our tools and began our installation at Bistrotheque for the launch party of IM/UR.

7 hours later we were giving our hand cut Max Ersnt style towering sculptures their final touches. We gathered our stuff, got back in the car and trundled back to the studio for a (very) late breakfast.

Fast forward to 7pm, where we return to the venue, only to find the remains of our installation piled next to the door. Someone had bulldozed the whole area in a vain attempt to clean the space and binned all our work in the process! After a split second of thinking it was a joke, or a dream, or maybe even the wrong venue, we quickly realised this was just one of lifes unfortunate mishaps...

Apologies to those of you who went down expecting to see some visual delights, for the record let me tell you it was pretty amazing (pre bin that is) but I guess you will just have to take my word for it...!
